Decisions...decisions...
I gain weight very easily & since losing a bunch (& gaining a little & now losing it again), I’ve become quite conscious about what goes into my body (unless it has chocolate, sprinkles or frosting! Then all bets are off!). However, there’s one place I don’t generally think about calories: the bar. We all like to have a few drinks, macaroons, but be careful what you order! With the help of The Magician (who for these purposes will be The Bartender), I’ve put together a list of the “best” beers to consume on a night out as well as a reference for the calorie count in common mixed drinks.
Beer (Bottles):
1. MGD 64 – 64 calories
2. Michelob Ultra – 95 calories
3. Amstel Light – 95 calories
4. Miller Lite – 96 calories
5. Coors Light – 102 calories
To compare, my two favorite beers, Rogue Red & Rogue Dead Guy Ale, respectively boast 174 & 216 (!!!) calories per 12 oz bottle.
Liquor (one shot, 1.5oz):
1. Stoli Flavors (orange, rasberry, etc…) – 90 calories
2. Bacardi Superior (clear) – 96 calories
3. Other Vodkas – 103 calories
4. Captain Morgan Rum – 93 calories
5. Gin- 103 calories
6. Jack Daniels- 96 calories
7. Jose Cuervo- 104 calories
Mixers:
1. Water/Club Soda – 0 calories
2. Any diet soda – 1 calorie
3. Sugar Free Red Bull – 11 calories
4. Tonic Water (8oz) – 83 calories
5. Regular Red Bull – 111 calories
6. Cranberry Juice (8oz) – 112 calories
7. Gingerale/Sodas (8oz) – 124 calories
Most Common Drinks:
Stoli O and Sugar Free Red Bull- 101 calories
Cherry Vodka and Diet Gingerale/Coke- 103 calories
Bacardi and Diet- 96 calories
Jose Cuervo Margarita- 382 calories in 6oz serving
Cosmopolitan- 157 calories
Malibu Bay Breeze- 138 calories
Long Island Iced Tea- 242 calories
Amaretto Sour- 263 calories
Vodka & Cranberry- 159 calories
Vodka Tonic/ Gin Tonic- 178 calories
And so, the Beer Belly Prevention League was born! Remember to always alternate drinks & a glass of water. Also, drink in moderation. Don’t be “that guy,” macaroons! So, what’s your favorite drink? Rather, what was your favorite drink until you found out how many calories were in it?
