Candy hearts can't be broken...well, you know what I mean!
Remember in 3rd grade when Valentine’s Day was a Communist holiday? Everyone had to give everyone else a piece of card stock with the Ninja Turtles eating heart shaped pizza under a speech bubble that read “Dude! You give my heart shell shock!!” Everyone got the same number of chalk heart candies & ring pops & other meaningless trinkets. So when did Valentine’s day start to mean to much to us, ladies? When did it turn from a joyous excuse to miss class & get some free candy to a soul crushing reminder of singledom? If you’re alone this Valentine’s Day, love & lavish yourself!

♦Eat nothing but pink foods all day! Healthy? Hell no! Fun & delicious? Absolutely. I recommend sushi (salmon & tuna are pink! So is pickled ginger.), things with bacon & ketchup, strawberries & raspberries (preferably dipped in chocolate) & cupcakes of course! Especially the Ooh La La from Crumbs:

♦Take a cue from Operation Beautiful & leave little Valentines for other women to find.
♦Don’t be a downer for your couple friends! If you had a beau you’d be annoyed by your single friends’ jaded anti-love rants so tone it down & be happy for all lovesick ladies!
♦Watch a bunch of super violent movies. I recommend Battle Royale, True Romance (which is an offbeat love story as well, but well worth it- it’s my favorite film of all time!) or any & all of the Saw movies, which will probably make you throw up all that pink food you just ate.

♦Round up all your single gals & ask everyone to bring a bottle of wine, a block of cheese & a box of chocolates to share. Enjoy a decadent evening of estrogen fueled laughter.
♦Write a sexy, steamy love letter to yourself. Don’t hold back! Gush about your ampersand or hourglass figure, that adorable little freckle on your hip & every tiny detail about your body. Write it in your personal Radical Self Love guidebook!
♦Bake up a batch of heart shaped cookies & distribute them at the office.
Or you can order one of those big cookie cakes! (I've secretly always wanted one)
♦Suck it up & let that friend of yours set you up on a blind date! You never know & it has the potential to be a great story!
♦Grab your camera & head out into your world. Take photos of everything you fall in love with from architecture & light patterns to a woman dressed in a fabulous coat or an odd looking couple. How many times can you fall in love on one journey?
♦Ahem. Treat yourself to a little playtime.
♦Wash your hair. No, seriously make an appointment at the salon and go for an outrageous (read: different from what you’d normally get done) color &/or cut. It’s just hair. It will grow out. I’d rather take a chance & end up loving it!
♦Fall in love with fictional characters! Revisit your favorite protagonists in books, movies, video games or your own imagination. Just, uhm, keep it in check!

THANK YOU for not being down on Valentine’s Day. I’ve spent far more of these days single then paired up and it has never stopped me from loving it. It’s an excuse to have fun, eat chocolate and show a little love to whom ever you want, be it yourself, your family, your significant other, or just your super awesome friends.
You have a great personality that shines through your writing and I’m really looking forward to reading your posts and maybe applying a little Radical Self Love to myself. Lord knows I need it sometimes! Thanks for making me smile.
