I did it, macaroons! I escaped from my old job! As miserable as my old job made me, that’s how happy, productive & valued my new job makes me feel. Even when you’re unhappy, it’s not always easy to leave. Here are some tips & guidelines on how to quit your job without burning bridges.
☠ Tell your boss privately. He/She will advise you as to what they need you to put in your letter of resignation.
☠ Let your close office friends know. Some companies just send out a general departure email & you don’t want the people you respect & care about to be surprised or shocked by the news.
☠ Ask your supervisors for a general letter of recommendation. It never hurts to have some on file.
☠ Don’t go out with middle fingers blazing. Don’t make a big deal out of it. Have some co-workers come out to celebrate after work.
☠ Here’s my actual letter of resignation (with all identifying details cut out, of course).

Dear _________,
Please accept this letter as formal written notice of our conversation this afternoon regarding my two-weeks notice of resignation. My last day of work will be __________________ and I will use all remaining paid vacation days prior to that date.
I am resigning voluntarily to pursue another career. I do not have in my possession any company property or information and I have been advised of the status of my benefits program. I also affirm and will honor the obligations stipulated by my confidentiality and non-competition agreements.
I authorize Company X to provide employment information upon request of prospective future employers and I acknowledge that I have no claim with respect to Company X following my last day of employment as cited above.
I appreciate the experience and opportunities Company X has provided over the last year. Please let me know if there is anything I can do during these last two weeks to ease the transition.
Sincerely,
Macaroon
