Hello, Fall! (and why don't I own this dress?!)

Goodbye, summer!

Monday: How long has it been since you’ve been on a bike? Grab a bicycle & go for a spin. It’s the most fun, freeing thing anyone can do.

Tuesday: It’s getting close to jack-o-lantern season! Pick yourself some apples & carve them into something awesome!

Wednesday: It’s wine harvest time! Find the nearest vineyard & see if they’ll let you come with some friends & help pick grapes. My favorite spot, Natali Vineyards, has grape picking parties every Wednesday during harvest.

Thursday: Drive as far as you have to & get yourself a delicious Wendy’s Frosty.

Friday: Jot down your favorite memories of the summer in as much detail as you can so you’ll always remember.

Weekend Homework: Put together a fun outfit, grab a camera & search your town for a brightly colored or interestingly textured wall. Take a bunch of photos in front of it. You don’t have to do anything with them other than check out how gorgeous & awesome you are… even in the many awkward outtakes!

On Sunday, I attended a pig roast at Natali Vineyards to benefit the local food bank. It was a beautiful day filled with sun, the scent of roasting pork & a variety of delicious wines. I wanted to wear a cool, comfortable summer dress & enjoy my day among the grapes.

You know how if you think there’s a chance you’re pregnant you see pregnant women everywhere? Or when you meet someone new & exciting, the radio won’t stop playing that song he played for you that you’d never even heard before? Or even after a break up when you keep seeing those annoying little reminders of him that are so specific to your relationship & so frequent that they’ve convinced you it was meant to be?

Signs are tricky & mean & deceptive.

That’s not to say they don’t exist. The trouble with signs is that we believe them, macaroons. We see them everywhere & choose to interpret them in certain ways, often giving them way more power than they were ever intended to have.

Heart shaped coffee stains on your stoop don’t mean the guy who helped you reach the Pop Tarts on the top shelf at the grocery that morning is The One. Nor do they mean you should dwell on your ex. The universe isn’t that specific, macaroons.

Most of us look for or ask for signs to tell us which way to go, when really I think they’re meant more to tell us we’re on the right track. Most just remind us to smile, like my happy bagel the other morning.

Likewise, if you obsess over interpreting them & overanalyzing you’re not going to get very far either.

On Sunday, I had breakfast in the sky on the giant ferris wheel at Morey’s Piers. I enjoyed my morning tea along with some lobster & shrimp omelet & blueberries covering a Belgian waffle all served 160 feet above the beach & amusements of the Wildwood boardwalk. I wanted to dress up a bit & sort of do the pin up thing.
